I was referring to ed, actually. He probably wouldn't want the same individuals that brought about the end of the last forum on a new one that would be collaborating with him.

He's not here to speak up for himself. Only one way to find out. Worst he can say is 'no' and then we start again from square 1. In the mean time we could come up with other ideas. Can I shove a Black Library Novel into your hand now and ask for a synopsis/ review, now?

What lie are you referring to?Lucarus wrote:I'm sorry, but I'm never going to get over the fact that Ed gave up on the relay, and then lied about why he closed it.
He didn't care about us, he just wanted us to sit on our thumbs until we could spew lore at some random one time visitors to increase his own fanbase. we were a tool, and he used us. Nothing you or he could say or do will change that.
Even if he didn't care and did use us as a tool, we owe everything to him anyway. The good included. Without him, his content, and him providing the platform, you wouldn't have had anything to lose in the first place. And you haven't lost any of the fun you had there. Yeah you won't have any more of it, but that doesn't undo what you did have.
Grudges are bad. They don't help, only hinder. Even if Ed could have done things better, you shouldn't hold onto ill feelings. Ever, IMO. If you are going to resent him, you should also resent me for leaving I think. I mean...maybe it was a coincidence but the situation seemed to turn into this after I left:
Lucarus wrote:Honestly? I think Slig could have done the job, seeing how ed basically trusted him to run the forum anyway.
Flattering. I'd probably have been a lot stricter if I were in an admin position though. I don't know if you would have liked me after that. XDFarseer Amathar wrote:I could see that. But what can we do about the road not traveled?

In the end, I was arguing for being more strict. I would've been fine.

You do realize I have no video-crafting skills and absolutely do not want to be on camera. And if I'm on the Mic, I run the risk of being a much-harder-to-understand-American-Yahtzee.
However, I can help you write scripts, if you need.
The question is, where to start? Do you do something big or famous in hopes of drawing in viewers? In which case, it's almost always obvious: The Horus Heresy.

I have no problem talking on, editing, and even posting the vid.
I just need content.

I'd also like to, kind of as a favor to GW, mostly as a favor for ourselves and the fans, every fourth or fifth review, pick something smaller or lesser known.
Then how do we approach such a large series? Do we do them in sets? Do we do them out of order, in order to lump certain series together?

Re: LL-VoT collaborations
Ok. How about we start at the beginning of the Lore?
Talk about the Necron, Old Ones, Ancient Eldar, orks ect. first?
then move up the timeline, doing chunks that represent eras, like pre-imperial, horus heresy, ect.?

40K Lore Timeline? Not a bad idea. But the first few videos will be vague as can be.
How do we cover the Necron War in Heaven vs the Eldar War in Heaven (the myth of their gods)?
By the way I'm just kicking around ideas and poking holes in hopes of provoking thoughts. I'm not trying to discourage anything. Honestly you could just do chat videos and tabletop battle reports and you'd get a modest following.

Oh no... we've been discussing a series that can help advertise (For me both forums) that is sort of a... contingency plan. Or a supplement.

I'm just kicking around ideas and offering to help with scripts. I'll probably pressure Ris into helping, as well. It's whatever Lucan wants to do, it will be his face on camera and his reputation on the line.

Re: LL-VoT collaborations
Off of the top of my head, the normal types of videos you will find on 40k are:
Painting Tutorials, Battle Reports, Codex Reviews, Tactical Advice, Generic Chat, Lore Videos & Character Bios. My original suggestion was to do Black Library reviews, because I don't see a lot of independent book reviews. Everything else seems pretty well covered. Though there's no harm in taking another crack at any or all of these. People use multiple sources, now. Especially when painting.

Re: LL-VoT collaborations
Right. How familiar are you lot with the tabletop?
Had a small idea, or rather twist on the lore series idea that perhaps hasn't been done. As far as I know. Though that could easily be because it's a stupid idea. Anyway, there are plenty of channels dedicated to either the tabletop or the lore. Can't think of any that do both in one go.
Personally I got interested in the universe because of the games and the figures, and then when I found armies I liked I looked into the background story of those factions. That is what got me very interested in 40k. I think that's the same for a lot of people.
The issue is talking about both at the same time makes important information a bit muddled. Another issue is how the hell do you title videos of his nature, or how do you label the channel? No clue.
But the basic idea is:
Pick a faction for the vid. Let's say Space Marines since they are vanilla as fuck and what a bunch of noobies will look too, and they're good for learning the game. Talk about their play style. Offer a basic beginner army (so like a few squads of marines and a HQ. Maybe a rhino, or whatever). When you're done talking over the technical shit, say "if you only wanted tips, you can leave the video here". Those that are interested in a bit more can stay for the last bit of the vid. For Space Marines this could be a bit of a backstory on what the Astartes are and a rundown of the chapters that can be played in Codex: Space Marines. Maybe talk about fanmade chapters too.
Later on down the line you can have videos specific to particular figures, following the same format and giving play tips at the start and lore at the end. You get the idea.
It would probably be a bit of a clusterfuck but hey, I haven't seen it so throwing it out there in case you get something from it.

Re: LL-VoT collaborations
Got my start with Noise Marines back in 4th Edition. Really got into the game with my Altansar Force (my profile picture is of my eternally-work-in-progress Farseer) at 5th Edition, played through to the end of 6th Edition and dropped off right as 7th Edition rolled around. Need to get back into it, but I currently live like 40 minutes one-way away from most of my friends, so that's being delayed. In the mean time, I've been reading books instead and painting models, recently. Still watch tactical videos so I don't feel too rusty.
It's not a bad idea at all, but my one complaint is that, unless you have access to a gaming club full of buddies willing to help you out, that is an expensive channel to run. And I think MiniWarGaming does or did something similar. Also narrative campaigns (done by MiniWarGaming) would fit into this as well. I think many players are interested in this style of gaming, but don't have a clue how to approach it. Or maybe that's just me projecting.

Hey Lucan, got some cash to burn? You could do a 'My Journey into 40k' series where you follow instructions on how to get into the game and document your time, talking about what you love (the lore) and why you selected your army, as well as discussing what worked for you and what hasn't worked for you. Could easily become a year-long project.

Re: LL-VoT collaborations
I always say take it slowly. It's like buying a (new) video game. And with 70 USD, that could almost get you two 40k units, or most certainly a unit, some paints and some brushes. It would also be interesting (and perhaps funny) to watch you and a friend buy the Dark Vengence set and run through the games as laid out in the starter rulebooks.
But whatever the reason, I understand. I don't have the money to go out and drop on a bunch of 40k myself either, right now. It was just a thought.

I'm not, I'm just reading you guys doing what you do and eat Popcorn.
It's like watching Soap operas but with better Characters.
But yes, I can do Video editing and stuff like that, just won't be arsed to. Also I think Lucan can do it about as well as I.
